Al Jazeera journalists hacked using Israeli firm’s spyware

Dozens of journalists at Al Jazeera Media Network were targeted this year by advanced spyware sold by an Israeli firm in an attack likely linked to the governments of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, a cybersecurity watchdog said.
Citizen Lab’s researchers at the University of Toronto published a report on Sunday detailing how NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware infected the mobile phones of 36 journalists, producers, anchors and executives at the media network which has its headquarters in Qatar.
The cybersecurity watchdog attributed the unprecedented attack to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
In confirming the hacking, Tamer Almisshal, an investigative journalist with Al Jazeera Arabic, said a probe was launched after death threats were received on a phone that was used to call ministries in the UAE for a story.

  1. Yeah, if I were a dying industry like news reporting I would be frightened of technology too, so I would post stories like this to make it seem like my communications weren't compromised. It isn't like there are governments that would use media for disinformation is it? Ahh who am I kidding, its probably all true, those criminals sue em.

  2. Spying has been around as long as countries and states have existed and fought each other. The difference today is that all use modern technology –
some are better at it, than others; some invent it, some buy it, but all use it for their own gains to spy on enemies. As the saying goes 'know thy enemy".

  3. I found it amazing how AZ & All the Israel haters in the comments who didn't even watch the video for one second accuse Israel of committing a crime , while :
    A) It is a private company . it's like blaming the USA for committing a crime because American hacked some news company . it doesn't make sense.
    B) it is in the title for god sake , "using " , again "using " . Israel wasn't behind the attack . the hackers used Israeli software to make this attack . of course AJ will do anything to make Israel look bad so they will put the fact that this spyware was made in Israel in the title for clickbait from Israeli haters .

I'm sure all of those haters in the comments , will also accuse Iran for committing a crime . since Iranian group called "pay2key" has hacked many Israeli companies in the last month . but of course AJ won't report that . nor BBC nor CNN nor nothing . and they will say "zionist media" . to them zionist mean anything that don't say "death to israel" , which even AJ won't be that stupid to say (at least publicly) , because if Israel actually wanted to hack AJ , it will be done by now.
