Greece to extend territorial waters amid Turkey tensions

Greece is preparing to extend its territorial waters to 12 nautical miles (22.2km) from its western shores. It is an apparent show of strength as it prepares to resume talks with Turkey on agreeing to the limits of their continental shelves.
As Al Jazeera’s John Psaropoulos reports from Athens, the two issues are closely related.

  1. Griks did not beat the Ottomans alone, Bulgaria and Serbia were involved and only after 500 years of ottoman rule in those countries, did they push back. That greece can handle turkey on their own today is highly debatable and to propose that greece own the entire Aegean fascicle. Learn to share the resource.

  2. This is a biased segment. You have a Greek reporter reporting pro-Greece news. Where is the mention that Turkey will be economically and militarily affected if Greece extends its soverignty towards Turkish waters? This triggers a national security risk not only for Turkey but for any country in this scenario.

Similar scenarios have been encountered between England – France and Japan – Korea in the past and the two nations sorted the problem amongst themselves. Neither of these nations cried out to the European Union like Greece to sanction Turkey because they are not getting what they want.
